The History of the School

Ossen High School was founded in 1975 as a harambee Mixed Secondary School to cater for students whose parents were not able to meet the rising cost of boarding public schools. It initially began as a mixed day school operating from Ossen Primary School. In 1976, the school was allocated a piece of land averaging 20 acres hived off from Katimok Forest, and the construction of temporary structures began, thus the school became a boarding school. The first Form Four class graduated in 1980.

The school remained mixed until 2014, when the first girls-only class was admitted. By 2017, it had transitioned to a four-streamed girls' school. In 2022, it was upgraded to NATIONAL Status. The academic performance has improved significantly over the past three years.

The school is sponsored by the Africa Inland Church (AIC) and has a Chaplain for spiritual guidance, organizing weekly and Sunday services within and outside the school.

Education System

The school runs on the revised 8-4-4 system of education, offering a wide curriculum and practical skills to help learners contribute positively to society and become self-reliant. The careers department plays a key role in subject selection.

Location

The school is in Baringo County, 15 km north of Kabarnet town along the Kabarnet-Kabartonjo road, adjacent to Katimok Forest at Ossen Trading Centre Junction.
